Task Force Accomplishments

  • Developed a Plan of Cooperation in 1987 to define the roles of child protection, law enforcement, prosecution, mental health, and medical organizations and promoted a ‘team approach” to child sexual abuse investigation, prosecution and treatment. The Plan was revised in 2005.
  • Implemented the Parents United Program in 1987 to bring to our community for the first time a comprehensive treatment program for child sexual abuse victims, their siblings, non-offending parents and perpetrators.
  • Developed the Lucas County Multidisciplinary team in 1994 to review cases of child physical and sexual abuse to help further promote the team approach and to plan multidisciplinary interventions.
  • Advocated successfully for policies that promote community protection and intervention that are sensitive to the needs of child victims and their families.
  • Established the Children’s Advocacy Center (CAC) in 1997 to provide a child-friendly comforting site, support and crisis services to children and families who are coping with child sexual abuse, physical abuse, and witnessing violence. Another key component of the CAC is to provide a neutral, trauma-reducing site where child victims can be interviewed by the team of professionals who are conducting the investigations.
  • Sponsored multiple professional and community awareness trainings on child maltreatment.
  • Provided support and guidance to several community projects, including Safe Kids Safe Streets Initiative, Building Healthy Families Collaborative, Children Who Witness Violence Project, Permanency Planning Project, Child Welfare League of America’s Multi-System Case Analysis, The Cullen Center, and many others.
